BBC HD Channel to Broadcast Wimbledon Finals in 3D

This will be the BBC's first venture into the 3D broadcasting market and is set to be one of a number of editorial experiments undertaken by the corporation.

Head of BBC HD&3D, Danielle Nagier said, "Were bringing audiences a new way of getting close to the action. I?m sure that 3D will only add to the drama as the world's greatest players compete for the championship.”

She also said that showing some of the London Olympics in 3D was a distinct possibility.

The broadcasts on the 2nd and 3rd July will be available to the public without a subscription on the BBC's HD channel, although viewers will need a compatible TV and
set-top box in order to watch in 3D. Broadcasts will also be beamed to some cinemas and public events organised by the BBC.

BSkyB has shown more than 100 sporting events in 3D since January 2010.
