YouView, the internet connected TV service backed by BBC,ITV,C4,FIVE, BT and mobile mast business Arqiva has finally been launched today.
The new set-top box, dubbed 'the next generation of Freeview' was unveiled by Lord Sugar at an event held at the London Film Museum this morning.
The YouView platform aims to build on the success of Freeview by offering a subscription free TV service with access to around 300 channels including BBCiPlayer, ITV player, 4oD and 5 on Demand.
The contents menu will include an electronic programme guide that will allow users to scroll backwards as well as forwards in order to be able to watch shows for up to a week after they were first broadcast.
It will also allow users to record content and will recommend programmes based on past viewing habits.
The HUMAX DTR-T1000 set-top boxes are due to go on sale later this month (July) and will be available at Moss of Bath.
