The Egg Theatre at the Theatre Royal Bath launches its Egg Hunt (#theegghunt) on Friday 20th March as twenty-five, beautifully-decorated, super-sized eggs are united at Bath’s children’s theatre before being carefully hidden in locations across the city centre.
Taking place across Bath during the Easter holidays as part of the Egg Theatre’s 10th Birthday celebrations, #theegghunt starts on Saturday 21st March and runs for three weeks until 11th April.
Each of the eggs has been named in relation to its own unique artwork, with intriguing monikers ranging from ‘Nest Egg’, ‘Maurice the Monk’ and ‘Puzzle’ to ‘Little-Miss-Egg-Straw-Dinary’ and ‘Eggbert the Eggceptional’. The majority of the eggs have been decorated with designs created by local artists, as well as eggs designed by local school children and residents at Dorothy House.
Locals and visitors are invited to track down the twenty-five eggs hidden across Bath city centre. Free egg hunt maps are available from the Egg Theatre’s café, Bath Library, Bath’s Visitor Centre and can be downloaded. The only egg which will not be marked on the map is the ‘Golden Egg’. It will be down to egg hunters to deduce where that has been hidden!
#theegghunt maps feature questions for participants to answer whilst they search for the hidden eggs, and egg hunters are encouraged to post pictures on facebook and twitter. Maps returned to the egg theatre complete with answers will be entered into a prize draw. The first 100 handed in at the egg reception will receive a handmade treat courtesy of the San Francisco Fudge Factory.
#theegghunt ends with a draw on the 11th April when one lucky winner will receive the ‘Golden Egg’ to keep, as well as tickets for both the egg’s Christmas show and the Theatre Royal Bath’s pantomime.
Kate Cross, Director of the egg theatre, said, “Everyone loves a treasure hunt, whether they’re young or old. I really hope we’ll see lots of egg-hunters around the city during the Easter holidays. We are absolutely delighted that so many local businesses have joined the birthday party and are helping us to kick off the celebrations in style. We’re truly ‘feeling the love’, just as we did 10 years ago when we opened and, to be honest, have continued to feel ever since.”
Local businesses, organisations, schools and charities supporting #theegghunt by sponsoring an egg, are: Guildhall Market Traders, Up to Seven, San Francisco Fudge Factory, My Small World, Green Park Brasserie, Stride Treglown, Nicholas Wylde, Zenith International,
Kingswood School, Bath Building Society, The Royal High School Bath, Bath Rugby, Monkton Prep School, Moss of Bath, Dorothy House Hospice Care, Milsted Langdon,
Ora et Labora, The Francis Hotel, The Framing Workshop, Sugar Loaf, Farrow & Ball, Milsom Place, Bath Area Play Project and Sanlam Private Investments (UK) Limited.
The 12” high eggs have been produced locally by Westbury-based Fibreglass Applications.
The egg theatre at the Theatre Royal Bath is a world-class theatre for children and young people, which first opened its doors to the public in October 2005. The egg remains one of only five dedicated theatre spaces for children and young people in the British Isles: http://www.theatreroyal.org.uk/the-egg
We have some of the treasure maps in-store too…and maybe a few sweet treats of our own for any hungry treasure hunters!
Thanks go to David Rolls of www.whitestardesign.co.uk who designed and painted the Moss of Bath egg.
