Independent shops ‘sell electrical goods as cheaply as large chains’

Independent shops often sell electrical goods just as cheaply as large chain stores, according to the  consumer group Which?

More than 1,200 independent retailers in the UK buy products through Europe’s largest electrical buying group, Euronics.

A Which? researcher compared the prices of a washing machine, kettle and TV at five Euronics retailers with the prices at BHS, Comet, Currys,

Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis, PC World and Selfridges.

The kettle was priced the same at all five Euronics stores and the four superstores that sold it. For the TV, all five Euronics stores and five chains offered almost the same price.

For the washing machine, all five Euronics retailers had the same price, but at two of the big chains it was £20 more expensive, while one had the same price, and one was selling it for £20.99 less.

Which? says: ‘Our snapshot research has suggested that it’s possible to find prices that are as low as electrical superstore deals, while also supporting local businesses.’

Reading this recent report is 'music to our ears' at Moss of Bath. We often find that people expect us to be more expensive than the big 'chain' retailers.  Of course what we offer in addition is great customer service, professional advice and local knowledge.

When you purchase a television from Moss of Bath we will give you a 10% discount in part exchange for your old TV and our 5 year 'premier' warranty is FREE. Our standard delivery charge is £45 and more often than not Moss of Bath will deliver on the same day as purchase. A Moss of Bath engineer will install the product and ensure that it is connected to all other ancillary equipment. Moss of Bath will also remove and recycle your old television.

It is these additional services that we are proud of and reports such as these will hopefully encourage more people to support their local, independent retailers.
