Important information: Another Freeview re-tune 19th June..and why it’s happening again.
In November 2016 Ofcom made the decision to reallocate some of the airways that are utilised by Freeview via digital television to make room for mobile services, specifically the roll out of 5G. This means that some Freeview channels will need to move to new frequencies and this process is known as 700MHz clearance.
The demand for 5G is strong and continuing to grow, therefore the roll out has started earlier than the original planned date of 2020. In order to cope with these demands a section of the 700MHz band (currently occupied by Freeview) is being made available for future use by 5G.
Engineering works have begun to clear this frequency for the new service, resulting in a large amount of transmitters having to change all or some of the frequencies that they broadcast on.
The clearance affecting the Bath area started in April and continues into June, affecting coverage and channels that you can view and resulting in the need to retune your TV or set-top boxes. Some equipment will retune automatically meaning that this clearance should not affect you. A small percentage of homeowners may need to replace their rooftop aerial entirely to continue to receive services.
Although the future of 5G is a very exciting prospect, Moss of Bath understand the frustrations that are associated with these frequent retunes. Please read the information below which should help you to retune your television.

How to re-tune your TV
Full re-tuning
A full re-tune should only takes a few minutes and can be done with your remote control. Here are some guidelines for how to do it, but bear in mind every model of digital TV or box will be a little bit different.
Make sure your Freeview TV or box is on and in digital mode. Press ‘menu’ on your remote control.
Select the ‘set up’ or ‘installation’ option. If you see picture icons, select the tool box, satellite dish or spanner.
If you are prompted for a code, try 0000 or 1234.
Select the full re-tune option. This is sometimes called ‘first time installation’, ‘factory reset’, ‘default settings’ or ‘shipping conditions’. Do not select ‘channel update’ or ‘add channels’.
Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if you want to delete all your channels. Don’t worry this is normal
Channels will automatically be installed. This may take a few minutes and your equipment may shut down and restart.
Viewers will see on screen messages to remind them to re-tune nearer the time.
