In support of good ‘old fashioned’ business

In support of good ‘old fashioned’ business

We have been promising ourselves a bathroom renovation for years, using the excuse that we still had a teenager at home to avoid getting anything done, and as that teenager started University this autumn there were no more excuses.

And then I began to feel a bit like Goldilocks…..Of the three local companies that we contacted, number one was waaay over our budget, number two took so long to provide a quote that we’d already contacted number three……who didn’t turn up.

Finally we found an absolute gem of a guy who could undertake the work required but wanted us to source all the products; from taps to tiles and everything in-between.

Being passionate supporters of the ‘high street’ we started our search right there but became a little frustrated by a lack of service and/or choice available and so ventured into the online world of ‘Bathrooms R Us’. This was a complete minefield….easyish enough to find the right toilet but trying to negotiate outlet drains, frames for wall hung WCs and undercounter basins proved to be a nightmare. Trying to speak to anyone was impossible unless you count the completely useless ‘online chat’ I had with helplines which wasted hours of my life with absolutely no outcome at all!

In the meantime my social media timeline filled up with hundreds of random bathroom products, making choices even more complicated and eventually reaching the point where I decided what we really needed was someone like our own business – Moss of Bath – to help and advise us!

So, after another morning of googling and searching I finally hit the jackpot when I called Bathroom Solutions Bristol and had a real conversation with Pete who invited me to the showroom, said he’d make us a cup of tea and discuss our requirements. Eureka! Our faith in the high street restored we duly visited the store and within an hour had pretty much ordered everything we needed. Bathroom Solutions Bristol have been amazing. Excellent advice proffered, conversations and orders always followed up with an email and every item arrived and delivered when they said it would be!

Similar experiences followed with Mandarin Stone in Bath who were so helpful and patient, especially as I changed my mind over tile choices about a million times! The Neptune store in Bath let me purchase paint even though they were officially closed for a private event when I explained that my painter was booked in the following day and the Vanessa Arbuthnott fabrics showroom is an absolute joy to visit and a great excuse to have a wander around Cirencester.
We used Bath Granite & Marble Ltd for the worktop who’s team arrived to do the installation when I was at work and had finished by the time I got home…had there not been evidence of the actual worktop I would never have known they’d been in, hands down the tidiest people we’ve had in so far!

We hope that our experience is similar to how clients feel when they visit Moss of Bath and receive expert advice, product knowledge and customer care. We provide quotations within 48 hours of visiting a customer and any delivery and/or installation will be carried out by a member of the Moss of Bath team…we do not sub-contract out our work to third parties.

I wanted to write this to ‘blow a trumpet’ for those outstanding high street businesses that we have used over the past month or so during the renovation and I know how important it is to receive a pat on the back from time to time.
