Panasonic at the London 2012 Olympics

Panasonic has unveiled the extent of its Olympic sponsorship package for the London 2012 games. At an event in Covent Garden on 31 May, Panasonic outlined its plans as official AV partner.

The company will be supplying 45 large LED screens throughout 28 venues, with a total screen area of 1,730m2 . Making up part of that large LED screen complement are two massive screens, which will be located on a barge in the middle of the Thames – each screen will measure 143m2, which should ensure a great view for anyone camped out on the river banks.

Panasonic has installed 47 of its trademark 103in plasma screens throughout the sites, while approximately 12,000 consumer TVs have also been rolled out across the network of venues, athlete accommodation and media centres.

The Japanese electronics giant has also developed a completely new projector, specifically for use during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 games.

The new projectors will debut at the opening ceremony, and will be integral to the spectacle broadcast to the world on 27 July. Panasonic wouldn't say what content the PT-DZ21Ks will be projecting, but said that it would be very special.

Panasonic will also be supplying all the equipment to capture, process, edit and transmit every frame of video from the events. Like Beijing before it, the London 2012 Olympic games will be broadcast in HD, and for the first time some content will be broadcast in 3D.

The opening ceremony for the London Olympics is 27th July. Moss of Bath stock the new and impressive range of Panasonic VT50 televisions.
