Independents’ Day UK: Thursday 4th July
Independents’ Day UK is a not-for-profit campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, but with an annual focus on July 4th: ‘Independents’ Day’ itself.
Independents account for something in the order of 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and the High Street is often regarded as being ‘the centre of the community’. A good mix of independent and multiple businesses is the key to success for any town or city.
Whilst it is widely reported that our High Streets are having a tough time at the moment, recent statistics from the office for national statistics state that one fifth of all retail sales are carried out online….meaning that the remaining four fifths is still captured in a physical store.
Independent retailers must embrace the opportunities created by the change in consumer spending habits by offering services and experiences that customers cannot get online.
We are local, we know our customers, we answer the ‘phone and we know the area. We employ local people and support and collaborate with other local businesses. Moss of Bath is celebrating 57 years as an independent business in the beautiful city of Bath: “here today, here tomorrow.”
It’s so important to get the retail mix right to attract customers into a town, says Tim Moss of indie TV & hi-fi retailer @mossofbath in our latest Retail Stories video in partnership with @Capify_UK
